Treatment of impotence – Vardenafil
Vardenafil (Generic Levitra) is an oral drug that is used to treat severe erectile dysfunction in men - the inability to maintain a penile erection. Levitra is the drug's medical name. Erectile dysfunction occurs as a result of low blood flow to the penis. Vardenafil helps to increase the rate of blood flow into the penis so as to increase potency. However, for an erection to occur, there has to be a stimulation of the penis. The drug can be prescribed to men with impotence that may result from a certain medication.
Before prescribing Levitra, the doctor should be notified on the following;
- If the penis has a problem like deformity
- In the case where the patient has a heart disease
- In the case of an eye condition
- If the patient has angina (low blood pressure)
- If there are liver problems
In a case where the patient has ever suffered from a sickle cell disease
- If the patient is under other medications
- If certain medicines cause allergic reactions in the patient
If the patient feels the side effects or even other effects that he thinks are a result of vardenafil, he should contact the doctor immediately.
What are the warnings before using Levitra?
Like other ED medicines, Levitra can lead to sudden hearing loss in some men. However, such a case with this medication is yet to be reported, but it was reported with Viagra that has a direct link to Levitra.
The drug may lead to a painful erection but if the pain lasts for some hours, you should contact the doctor. Consequently, an erection that lasts for extremely long hours may lead to penis injuries.
The drug is only made for men, and no woman should consume it, especially if pregnant or even breastfeeding.
What are the side effects?
The side effects are few but can at times happen. Here are the side effects that can be caused by Levitra;
- Hearing loss
- chest pains
- Blurry vision
- Hives and itching
- unusually fast heartbeats
- rashes on the skin
- General body weakness
However if the patient suffers any of the side effects above, they should stop using the drug and contact or see a doctor immediately. The rare side effects with Levitra include abnormally long ejaculations, back pains, painful sensation on the patient's skin that feels like “pins and needles”, diarrhea, sore throat and heartburn.
What is the correct dosage of vardenafil?
Before taking Levitra, check the leaflet in the pack and read the manufacturer’s information carefully. This will alert you to any side effects that may arise from vardenafil use.
Follow the doctor’s advice. The medication should be taken before any sexual activity, but not for daily use. The pill should be consumed at least one hour before the sexual activity. However, taking a large fatty meal may influence the medicine’s effect, as it may take longer than expected for the medicine to start acting. There are three dosages for Levitra; 5g, 10g, and 25 g. The patient is likely to be initially given a prescription for 10g to evaluate how it will work. However, this may be changed depending on whether it is too much for the patient or too little. Whichever prescription the patient is assigned, he should keep it. This implies that every time the patient is buying the medicine, he should check the strength. Note that a patient should not take more than one dose in one day. If the medication is taken twice a day, it can result in severe pains in the penis.
In case of an overdose, the patient should contact the doctor for help right away.
Taking too much alcohol when under Levitra medication can be very risky. It can result in headache, low blood pressure, and dizziness.
Taking grapefruit or its juice is highly discouraged while using Levitra. It affects the drug metabolization and can cause side effects.
Avoid using Vardenafil while under over-the-counter drugs that have nitrates. Additionally, avoid using vardenafil while using herbal medicines.
How should Levitra be stored?
Like all other medicines, Levitra should not be placed at a place which can be accessed by children. Additionally, Vardenafil should always be kept in a dry and cool place with no sunlight.
If other drugs like Viagra were less effective, try Vardenafil.
